Ray Bradbury coined the quote Half the fun of travel is the esthetic of lostness” and I couldn’t agree more.
In the art of travelling and living there is a moment that seems almost magical, the one in which we don’t have anything for certain but the strong belief in the fact that we are about to find something fascinating. Our steps may not have a strong foundation and the plan may not be definite but the assurance of new experiences coming to find us is the main motivation.
Fashion takes advantage of this sensation of dreamy drift to show us how Florence, Paris, exotic beaches or the deepest of forests look through the keen eye of editors, photographers, and designers that use editorials and textures to exteriorize the feelings that the most hidden limits of the world created in them. And while they do this we become active participants of their dreams.
Ever since fashion was called that, designers have secured their aesthetic and creativity with the help of far away lands and so, in the Belle Epoque France saw itself dressed with the purest Aztec inspiration and imported the Japonism. Just like Prada is looking to dress us this season with garments of visible oriental inspiration, the same way that Marchesa wants to take us on an Indian trip.
The point that I want to make with this web of words is that one of the many virtues of fashion is the fact that it can –wants, needs to- enrich our lives through the multicultural journey that it offers. We can be engrossed by the toughest of routines but with the help of that dance of colours, ornaments and textures, we can take ourselves to foreign cultures and unknown emotions.
Fashion is not alone in this eager need of experiences, it is in good company of cultural manifestations such as literature –an expert in transporting us- and films.
As I am writing this, my mind goes straight to the chapter “Escapism” of one of my favourite TV shows, “The Delicious Miss Dahl” in which the model takes us on a journey around the world through aromas and tastes, Dahl teaches that the mere difference of flavors in a dessert awakens unseen sensations, and this is what I am most passionate about.
While looking at the always sublime editorials of some magazines I feel nostalgia for the places that I have never been in and I think that the magic of the fashion-voyage tandem lies in the question ¿What would I feel while being there?
Like another person most certainly, like Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday”, immersed in a journey full of unknown experiences, running with a stranger around the roman streets, because never seen before places hold never seen before emotions. That is the promise of every journey.
Every time that my wardrobe grows, every acquisition comes accompanied by thousands of thoughts about what kind of situations could see me wearing it, when we travel we select a fragment of our clothes contemplating what destiny might offer in other latitudes, our garments speak the language of our longings.
This last statement can easily be illustrated by the Bloggers with the infallible packing tutorials that Leandra Medine does or the manner in which Chiara Ferragni, Nicole Warne or Kristina Bazan study the concept of every city that they visit and then reflect it with impossibly creative outfits. This is an action of very thoughtful styling, based on the premise of blending ourselves a little with the city and preparing for what our time in a new place may bring with it.
Each setting demands for an outfit and if I let my mind get lost in whimsical daydreaming I will see myself wandering around Paris in stilettos or running through the Tuscany wrapped in a diaphanous dress, maybe I will carry a piece of the Sicialian woman in the Mayan Riviera or long for being one with the forest honoring the most natural of looks. While I listen to the rain, I feel a deep nostalgia for all the places that i crave to meet, today more than ever I want to be lost in Florence carrying my dreams in the suitcases that Marc Jacobs imagined for a certain Wes Anderson movie.

Did I arouse your dreams of travelling?

Ray Bradbury acuñó la cita: “Half the fun of travel is the esthetic of lostness” y yo no podría estar más de acuerdo.

WHAT FASHION CREATES

It is absurd and a total lack of respect towards fashion to believe that the effects of this cultural manifestation reduce to clothes. Fashion  is a global sphere that touches art, culture and of course,  life itself.
Taking this into consideration, it's obvious that cinema and photography are directly linked to this amazing world; here are two fashion short films that I just can't stop watching, feeling,  laughing with them, almost worship and of course, getting inspired by them, among other emotions.

First the short film "Secret Garden" directed by Inez and Vinoodh for Dior. I just can't properly describe how utterly deep this short film is. The monochrome, the color explosion, the angles, the close shots, the long shots, the models, the sunset, the gardens, La Galerie Des Glaces, Versailles and Dior. Everything united in a perfect rythmic montague that creates a dance with perfection.
I've watched this film so many times that I can't remember the number, but I can say this: in my craziest dreams I've ran surrounded by french opulence and dressed in Dior. What does it take to create such beauty? Every single time I watch it I can't help shedding tears with Daria Strokous, it's like a moving editorial by Grace Coddington with a Depeche Mode musical background.A must see for absolutely everyone, not only fashion lovers.

Second, the new video for the re-launch of The Coveteur. You've most likely watched it by now, Isn't it amazing? This video shows how fashion personalities are linked and how their personal styles and even phrases have given so much to our beloved fashion world. I just can't get over mini a mini Bryan Boy, a little Anna Dello Russo and a very, very young Karl Lagerfeld. Every single one of these children captures the essence of our most admired fashion icons, it's just genius. If you have a doubt about how amazing this film is let me give you eight words: "I've never even heard there was a Coveteur!"

Hope this fashion short films inspire you as much as they inspire me, this is an incredibly complex and magical world and I simply adore to share my view about it.
